Dubler 2006 Family Letter |
Happy New Year to friends
and family near and way too far away. 2005 was a year
of transitions for us; Danielle to college, Cami and Kenna coming into
their own at school, Jill taking on a whole new line of fitness
classes, and Pete learning new things to work on projects at home and
on the boat. We enjoyed a few trips on our boat and took the rare
opportunity of all three girls being out of school at the same time to
enjoy Christmas in Mazatlan (where we learned about such gastronomical
delights as Cafe Flambe, Bananas Flambe, and "Eggs Divorced with
Green and Red Burned Sauce".![]() |
![]() Makenna is now a freshman in high school and maintains High Honor Roll status. She is excited to be a real high school student now and is the Hostess for the Madrigal Dinner for the second year. She continues to be an amazing learner and is already in her 4th year of Latin. Makenna loves sports and PE, but she is not participating in basketball this year. She also enjoys playing the piano and hanging out with her friends. ![]() |
![]() Cami, is in 10th grade this year which is Sophomore in High School here. We and her teachers have seen her come into her own this year, maintaining honor roll and doing so much more. She is very active in the student council and as an avid swing dancer, is head of the dance committee. When not watching ER reruns, Cami can be found at the piano playing and singing. She is once again participating in the Madrigal Choir and directing elementary choir at school. As a Latin scholar, she is looking forward to a trip to Italy next summer. Cami is still the chief comedian in the family! ![]() ![]() |
![]() Like most seniors at Ridgeview Classical Schools, Danielle was at the top of her game. Completing her thesis in preparation for graduation, she pulled a trifecta: President of Student Council, Prom Queen, and Valedictorian. Danielle also received the Character, Literature, and History awards and the Humanities Scholarship from RCS. Her valedictory speech , which she suffered over (and made us suffer) for several weeks, and the introduction to that speech, tell you why we are so proud of her. She has now completed her first semester at Colorado College (private) in Colorado Springs at the base of Pikes Peak. But there is so much more to Danielle than school! While at CC she has learned new skills such as metalworking (jewelry) and running while keeping up old ones like pottery. Around her she has laid a firm foundation of friends who insist that her next new skill should be the very Coloradoan sport of skiing that she has long shyed away from. College has afforded many new opprotunities including performing in a 24 hour show (24 sleepless hours in the student theatre with a cast of 6 to learn lines, get costumes, make a set, and perform an entire play in front of a huge audience), volunteering at the Santa Fe Children's Museum, having class in the Sange de Cristo mountains, and spending four days up close and personal (literally nose to nose) with the wild wolves of Mission Wolf. Since CC runs on the unique block plan of one course at a time for 3 and a half weeks, Danielle's life is continuously in a state of both immersion and change from one intense focus to another, allowing her to follow her many passions as far as they will take her. |
Pete continues to take trips to New Bern, NC to work on Regina
Oceani. The restoration continues and Pete has spun off some
magazine articles that are now starting to appear in various sailing
magazines. He is teaching Earth
Science (and here)
again at RCS which he loves and has managed to coordinate with his
trips east. Pete is also consulting for a sailboat products
company and designing new products for them, taking him back to his
engineering roots. The next big sailing trip will take the whole
family offshore (the first time for Jill, Cami, and Kenna) for a July
trip down to Charleston, SC. |
| Jill, as usual, works at keeping
all Dubler plates in the air spinning, and knows where they all
are at any given point in time when someone wants to know.
Not an easy task, but most enjoyable and she is happy, happy.
Still teaching lots of classes each week, and running with Sophie
create a schedule she can work the family around. Her harp is a
most enjoyable hobby and stress release, and she is noticing
improvement! The daily big picture doesn't change, but everyday
feels different and fun and full of challenge. |
Our greatest hope for 2006 is to see the spirit of peace reign supreme and with it the blessings of health, happiness, and prosperity for all. |
